RHSRNbc Workshop Series Travel Bursary Competition

RHSRNbc will be awarding 4 bursaries of up to $500 for each workshop in our 2012 Research Skill Building Workshop Series. Travel bursaries will be awarded to RHSRNbc members who, are able to justify their attendance by indicating thier rural health services research interests and/or describe their current rural health research projects. Members are able to apply for funding for more than one workshop however, you must fill out a seperate application for each workshop you wish to recieve funding for. CIHR guidelines will be applied to define allowable expenses.

RHSRNbc Knowledge Translation Travel Bursary Competition

Travel bursaries will be awarded to RHSRNbc members who have been invited to present their rural health services research orally or in poster format at either a national or international conference. There are four bursaries to be won—three national bursaries of up to $450 and one international bursary of $750. These bursaries are intended to subsidize the costs of travel and accommodation and other expenses related to conference participation. 

Preference will be given to junior researchers, graduate students and community based researchers who, a) conduct research on or with rural communities in BC and b) who are able to clearly articulate their research link with rural health services research in their bursary application. Allowable expenses include: airfare, accommodation, conference registration, meals and transportation. Funds will be reimbursed after the conference with submission of original receipts and airline boarding passes.  CIHR guidelines will be applied to define allowable expenses.

Conditions:
· Applicants must be a RHSRNbc member
· Applicants must be presenting rural BC health services research
· Applicants must be actively engaged in rural health services research

This competition has a rolling deadline and bursaries will be awarded on a first come first serve basis to deserving applications given they meet appropriate standards of quality. Applications should be submitted as soon as possible with a copy of your letter of acceptance from the conference organizers and a copy of your abstract.

Canadian Institute of Health Research

Proof of Principle (POP) Phase I Program
Provides funding for proof of principle research projects of up to 12 months duration designed to advance discoveries/inventions towards commercializable technologies, with a view to attract new investment, create new science-based businesses, organizations and initiatives, and ultimately improve health outcomes for Canadians

  • The total amount available for this funding opportunity is $ 2,240,000. This may increase if additional funding partners decide to participate.
  • The maximum amount per grant is $ 160,000 for up to one year.*

Operating Grant: Knowledge to Action, 2011 / 2012

The intent of this funding opportunity is to accelerate the translation of knowledge by linking researchers and knowledge-users to move knowledge into action, and in so doing, increase the understanding of knowledge application through the process. Applicants can request funding to support partnerships, knowledge and tools for implementation projects of up to two years duration. This program is intended to fund the knowledge application process and is not intended to support projects where the main objective is to conduct primary research (for example, developing tools to evaluate the effectiveness of implementation strategies).

Catalyst Grant: HIV / AIDS and Aboriginal Health

Provides funding to stimulate research and activity in the areas identified in the Public Health Agency of Canada’s report titled “Population Specific HIV / AIDS Status Report: Aboriginal Peoples (http://www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/aids-sida/publication/ps-pd/aboriginal-autochtones/index-eng.php).  Six teams will be awarded up to $100,000 to fund innovative projects, research, partnership building between researchers and aboriginal communities and to develop a base of primary data in areas ranging from prevention to management and treatment of HIV/AIDS in Aboriginal populations.

Catalyst Grant: HIV / AIDS and Aboriginal Health (Community Based Research)

The HIV/AIDS Community-Based Research Program is designed to support community-based organizations, non-governmental organizations and institutions in developing the knowledge necessary to carry out their HIV/AIDS work most effectively, and to build expertise within these communities to conduct their own research. This Catalyst Grant will provide seed money, on a short-term basis, to support health research activities.

Fellowship Award

Designed to provide support for those qualified health professionals interested in engaging in research at home in Canada or, abroad. Applications will be accepted in all areas including: biomedical, health services and policy, social, cultural, environmental and population health. Candidates must have completed a PhD or a health professional degree and successful candidates will be rewarded up to 60,000 per year for up to 5 years depending on level of experience, education and skills.

Health Professional Student

CIHR would like to strengthen patient oriented clinical research in Canada by providing research training to our health professionals with hopes of generating a future population of clinician-researchers in Canada. Applicants must be a “trainee” or, currently enrolled in a health professional program and, currently unfunded by CIHR or any other federal source.

Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research 

The Health Services and Policy Research Support Network Partnership Program

The Health Services and Policy Research Support Network Partnership Program supports BC researchers in applying to peer-reviewed, national or international competitions that address BC health services and policy research priorities and require matching funding as a condition of funding.

The HSPRSN Partnership Program provides matching funds of up to a maximum of $100,000 per successful application over the duration of the award term, provided the application meets the program criteria.
A total of $300,000 is available for the Partnership Program 2010/11.  Newly introduced this year is an increased rigor in the review of the application received for the matching funds.
The program is now accepting applications to the 2011 program.

Partnership Research Program

As part of the BC Nursing Research Initiative (BCNRI), the Partnership Research Program is designed to advance nursing health services research within BC by leveraging BCNRI funding and drawing on expertise from outside the province. The program encourages research collaboration among researchers and practitioners (policy or practice) in BC and with researchers across Canada.

This program will provide partner contributions for successful applicants to national or international peer reviewed competitions that require match/partner funding as a condition of award. The BCNRI contribution will be up to $100,000 per project/program over the term of the award. The proposed project/program must be for practice-relevant nursing health services research that addresses a BCNRI research priority.
This program is one of several funded through the BC Nursing Research Initiative to build capacity for and to support practice-relevant health services research focused on the roles of nurses within the broad health services practice community.
The program is currently accepting applications for the 2011 competition.
